Origin: Larimar is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite, found only in the Dominican Republic, particularly around the city of Barahona. Interesting Facts:

• Larimar is also known as the “Dolphin Stone” and “Atlantis Stone” due to its ocean-like colors and the belief that it has ties to the lost city of Atlantis.
• The stone was rediscovered in 1974 by Miguel Méndez and a Peace Corps volunteer, who named it after Méndez’s daughter, Larissa, and the Spanish word for sea, “mar.”
• Its unique blue color is due to the presence of copper within the mineral structure.
